Production Still Rules

by Matt Slocum

Flip cams, web cams, iPhone cams, consumer cams, pro-sumer cams, HD, SD cameras are everywhere. There is so much recording and so many places to publish on the Internet. In fact, 20 hours of video is uploaded to YouTube every minute. Anyone with a message or good story can publish on the Internet for free and with little effort... and editing is getting cheaper too. Can anyone say iMovie?

With cameras everywhere, poor and mediocre videos are abundant. Everyone is now a video producer, editor, cameraman, director, and critic. The Internet has changed a lot of things for video, but one thing it hasn't changed is the need for a good story. People still have a desire to let their minds be taken on a journey, learn something new or get a laugh. Technology might be replacing parts of production, but a good production cannot be replaced.
