Creating Concise Calls to Action

Is your content really telling me what I need to know and do?

Have you ever noticed that a lot of content on the web doesn't really explain what the user is supposed to do? Sure, I know you're a business and offer products or services that may or may not work for me, but did you ever tell me to "try this service or that product" and really explain why it's going to make my life easier?

Internet distractions are rampant and create incredible obstacles for reaching your copy-writing goals. You can't afford to be vague or even witty with your copy; it's just not going to work consistently with the wide audience that's probably visiting your site.

Calls to action need to clearly describe what the user needs to do next. You should never assume that they will automatically know. Create clear and descriptive dialog and explain what needs to happen.

Calls to action are a great way to run tests on your audience. Use a specific call to action for a few months and then change the wording. Review your analytics and see what works best.

Websites and content are never finished. You should always be trying to reach your audience more effectively and the best way to do that is with testing.
